Polymer clay tools

There are an abundance of tools on the market for working with polymer clay and it’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the choices. Start with the basics and even try using items you have at home to experiment with.

The tools you will use will depend to a large degree on the direction your clay travels take you. If you end up doing more sculpting, then texturing tools will make this so much easier and you can buy these as you progress.

If like me, you enjoy making jewellery then you will need the following items:

• Ceramic tile to work on
• Tissue blades
• Craft knife
• Acrylic roller
• Some piercing tools
• Texturing tools
• Shape cutters and templates
• Wet wipes
• Alcohol solution (isopropyl alcohol) for cleaning
• Copy or printer paper
• Oven thermometer
• Sandpaper
