Moiko Silkscreens

4 Sep, 2023 | Our Suppliers

Our silkscreens are all from a small company in South Poland that is owned and run by Gosia (pronounced Gosha) Wawrzynczak who established Moiko Silkscreens in 2013. Her silkscreens are made from a high-quality Swiss mesh which sets them apart from so many others. I recently asked Gosia to tell me a bit about herself and how she got started and here is what she wrote:

“I started Moiko in 2013 officially – I mean I established the company then. I used to work for a big corporation as a project coordinator, but I was fired sometime after I became a mother of triplets. I found another job, but it was very alike and was not happy with that, I felt I needed a change. During the maternity leave I did some postgraduate study at the Art Academy, and I had classes with screen printing too. I fell in love with that technique. I started testing that idea on my polymer clay. I knew there are some people working with this technique on polymer clay, as there was a very popular event in Europe organised by one of the producers – FIMO Symposium. During one of those events there was a workshop with screen printing. So, this is how I was inspired to try…

I established my company, but I was still working another full-time job and I was a mother of triplets. So, it was not easy… I was overwhelmed by all that, as you know, the money is not big when you start, but you work, day and night… After some time, I fell into depression, because I was working too much, I have no time for my family and myself, I was suffering from lack of money all the time despite all the effort…

After some time, I decided I must get a part time job, which was ok for 1-2 years, but later when I gained some new customers, I left the large company completely. So now I am just running Moiko and have 2-3 other people to help with packing the big orders for resellers. But I am still a small company. Some time ago I asked my husband to work with me, as he is helping a lot anyway, so we will be working together soon.

When talking about patterns I usually buy them, I would be not able to design them all. There are some made by me, of course, but I must admit most of them are designed by other people, among others the Polymer Clay artists and friends: Noelia Contreras-Martin, Nevenka Balunovic, Marion le Coq and the newest cooperation with Cody Smith, Dani Rapinett.”

I’m so glad Gosia didn’t give up because now her silkscreens are sold all over the world and the quality of the workmanship is second to none. I’m so proud to be selling her products.

Recently I heard Gosia interviewed by Ginger Davis Allman & I would have to describe her as hard working, energetic, enthusiastic, and warm.

In the interview Gosia said she “lives in the moment, feels joy, and has no big dreams for the future!” What lovely thoughts to think about!
