About our findings

Findings are small items or components used by an artisan for creating jewellery.

Some of these components are earring hooks, posts, earring hoops & eye pins to name just a few.

These are the items that connect our pieces and add our special signature to the piece, be that bold or delicate.

Little White Wave has sourced quality jewellery components to complement your work and has also considered those with sensitive ears.

Read more about metals for findings

We offer the following metals:

  • Surgical stainless steel – often made of an alloy that includes steel, chromium, and often nickel. Sometimes the nickel content is too high for people with nickel allergies to wear consistently, though it does come in different grades with higher and lower carbon and nickel contents. Stainless steel is used in surgical instruments, which means it is resistant to corrosives and won’t rust over time.
  • Niobium – a metal that is frequently used in medical implants, similar to titanium, and is great for metal allergies. It is never painted or plated; the colour is adhered to the metal by anodizing it in an electric bath. It does not have any additives, like nickel or lead, making it safe for people with metal allergies. The colours can be bright blues and yellows, or more natural grey, black, and copper tones.
  • Titanium – which is one of the safest metals to use for jewellery. It’s bacteria-resistant, won’t cause allergies and is compatible with human skin. In other words, medical-grade titanium makes some of the most comfortable skin-friendly earrings you can wear, even if you have sensitive ears.
  • Sterling Silver – It may come as a surprise, but sterling silver is an alloy! It is at least 92.5% silver, which is why most sterling will be marked 925. The other 7.5% is usually copper, though it may also be nickel. Silver tarnishes easily, so it is often plated with Rhodium to keep its pretty shine. For most metal allergies, sterling silver can be a great option.
  • Gold Filled – created by mechanically bonding a layer of gold to a layer of base metal. Gold filled has a distinct layer of gold and the core is usually brass. The gold is then bonded to the surface of the brass using heat and pressure. This is a permanent bond, so the gold won’t flake, peel, or fall off. Gold filled can last a lifetime if taken care of properly and isn’t affected by water or hot weather. It is also tarnish-free under normal conditions. If you are not allergic to solid gold, then you are not allergic to gold filled.
